Our programs offers services in an inclusive and culturally appropriate way. We are the non-medical complementary addition to the birthing team.

Pregnancy is a very vulnerable time. All needs vary from person to person, but thing remains the same-more support is needed. All birthers can benefit from Uummati Perinatal Support care. Services can be utilized through perinatal workshops and prenatal education, partner guidance for the birth room, continuous support and postnatal care.

Uummati Professional Development Training for Inuit Perinatal Support Workers

In partnership with Tasiuqtigiit Centre and funded by Makigiaqta Inuit Training Corporation We present: The Uummati Perinatal Professional Development Training for Inuit. This training is offered online and for all Inuit in Nunavut.

This is a smaller training for Inuit interested in or already working in the perinatal field (fertility, pregnancy-postpartum and the early years) This training will pass on Doula support skills and traditional knowledge to Inuit. With these skills, they will be able to host their own support groups or one on one care with families and birthers in the perinatal period.

Uummati Perinatal Workshops and Client Care

Our mission is for birthing people and their partners to feel informed, empowered, and supported from pregnancy to the early childhood years. The long-term benefits of this mission will create healthier families and more confident parents. It will create a more positive birth experience by offering non- medical and culturally relevant continuous support.

Plans and Goals:

Full Uummati Perinatal Support Worker certification and a full running program that offers perinatal support services to all birthers and families in Nunavut.

Program Partner: Tasiuqtigiit Hand in Hand Society

Tasiuqtigiit offers wellness programs for our community. We offer CPNP- Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program, with programs for women who are pregnant or with a baby up to 2yrs old. We teach basic skills like sewing and cooking and rely on the support of other mothers in our community.

Healthy snacks and taxi vouchers are provided everyday. Come to ask questions, seek support or learn something new. Call 979-6301 for more info. We also offer two separate, half-day preschool programs (CAPC), one in English, and one in Inuktitut where we help children prepare for kindergarten.
